Big Beach Clean Up – Press Release from Groundwork Solent

The Big Beach Clean Up!

Come and make a difference to one of Southampton’s hidden treasures!

Since December 2011, Groundwork Solent has been working hard with Marks and Spencer’s in order to deliver the ‘Greener Living Spaces Legacy Programme’. The Greener Living Spaces Legacy Programme was established in order to run free community events across Southampton that encourage residents to get more involved with their local green spaces, learn new skills, break down community barriers and show local residents different ways in which they can utilise their local parks and green spaces.

As part of the Greener Living Spaces Legacy Programme, Groundwork Solent will be working alongside the Friends of Weston Shore to run the annual ‘Big Beach Clean up!’ along the beautiful sands of Weston Shore.

Weston Shore is truly one of Southampton’s hidden gems, a circa 85 hectare site, running alongside the Solent and up to the mouth of the river Itchen, that is designated as an international Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the importance of the inter-tidal mudflats, which attract thousands of wading birds each year.

Groundwork Solent and the Friends of Weston Shore would like to invite everyone with an interest in protecting one of Southampton’s most beautiful locations to come along to the annual ‘Big Beach Clean Up!’ and show your support for the area by helping to take part in a short litter pick along the seafront.

The event will run on Saturday 19th August, from 10:00 till 13:00, starting near the Pitch & Putt centre. Everyone is welcome to attend and to stay for as long as they wish.

This is your chance to get involved a make a difference to our beautiful beach!
