Really looking forward to the 2010 Big Beach Clean Up at Weston Shore tomorrow! Its always great fun getting out there and helping the beach look its best. It looks wonderful afterwards, with only a bit of work; brand new, refreshed and perfect for everyone to enjoy. Its one of the few places in Southampton where people have direct access to the sea and its also important for wildlife as well.
Part of the shore at Weston is categorised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the inter-tidal mudflat which provides an important feeding area for thousands of migrating wading birds. In addition Weston Shore was in 2009 awarded the prestigious Green Flag in recognition of its improving quality. The new Friends of Weston Shore group is looking to enhance and promote the area for local people, visitors to the area and the wildlife that it hosts. Tomorrow is a chance to get involved and help make this happen!
