On a beautiful summer’s day, it was thrilling to see so many people get involved with the Big Beach Clean Up on Weston Shore. Organized by the Friends of Weston Shore in partnership with Southampton City Council, the day was a big success and in all over forty people took part. It was the biggest litter pick so far and the beach looked wonderful afterwards.
A large area was cleared up, from Weston Yacht Club down past the stream, the car park with the stand for the Friends of Weston Shore in it proudly flying the Green Flag and down towards the pitch and putt course.
We had a lot of help from the Southampton Amateur Rowing Club who turned up as a crew and did a thorough job of cleaning up a large area of the shore. They really made a difference.
During the litter pick I received a telephone call from Radio Solent and had a brief interview about it with the beautiful Georgie Windsor who was very enthusiastic and fun to talk too.
The Friends of Weston Shore are grateful for everyone who take part and especially all the help and support from Southampton City Council. Weston Shore has recently been awarded the Green Flag as recognition of its improving standards and we hope this is something that continues!
